The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He looked (at others); 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
