The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
