The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Save worshippers. 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
