۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 And a speaker from among them will say: verily there was unto me a mate. 51 Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)? 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
