And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 Ye and your forefathers! 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
