He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
