Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 and the jinn created We before of fire flaming. 27 Recall when your Lord said to the angels: "I will indeed bring into being a human being out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud. 28 And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, bow before him in homage;" 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 "Till the Day of the time appointed." 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 "Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghawin (Mushrikun and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.). 42 Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
