Then, when the Messengers (the angels) came unto the family of Lout (Lot). 61 He said, “You are an unfamiliar people.” 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 We truly tell you that we have brought to you the Truth. 64 “Therefore journey with your household while a portion of the night remains, and you tread behind them – and none of you may turn around and see, and proceed directly to the place you are commanded to.” 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 Said Lot: "These are my guests; do not put me to shame, 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They replied: 'Have we not forbidden you (the people of) the worlds' 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 for, behold, those [towns] stood by a road that still exists. 76 Verily, herein lies a message indeed for all who believe [in God]. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
