Aaron had indeed told them earlier: "O my people, you are being only misled with this. Surely your Lord is Ar-Rahman. So follow me and obey my command." 90 They said: We shall by no means cease to be its votaries till Moses return unto us. 91 Then Moses asked Aaron, "What made you not follow me when you saw them in error? 92 "That you followed me not (according to my advice to you)? Have you then disobeyed my order?" 93 (Aaron) replied: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard nor by (the hair of) my head! Truly I feared lest thou shouldst say, 'Thou has caused a division among the children of Israel, and thou didst not respect my word!'" 94 He said: What was then your object, O Samiri? 95 He replied: 'I saw what they did not see and seized a handful of dust from the foot print of the messenger and so I cast it; this my soul prompted me to do' 96 [Moses] said, "Then go. And indeed, it is [decreed] for you in [this] life to say, 'No contact.' And indeed, you have an appointment [in the Hereafter] you will not fail to keep. And look at your 'god' to which you remained devoted. We will surely burn it and blow it into the sea with a blast. 97 Your God is only One, Allah. There is no god, except He, alone. His knowledge encompasses all things. 98 Thus We recount unto thee some tidings of that which hath preceded; and surely We have vouchsafed unto thee from before Us an admonition. 99 He who turns away from it will surely bear a heavy burden on the Day of Resurrection, 100 They will abide in this (state): and grievous will the burden be to them on that Day,- 101 on the Day when the trumpet is blown: for on that Day We will assemble all such as had been lost in sin, their eyes dimmed [by terror,] 102 Whispering to one another: "You have tarried but ten days." 103 We know very well what they will say, when the justest of them in the way will say, 'You have tarried only a day.' 104
