A group of his people who disbelieved him and had called the Day of Judgment a lie and whom We had made prosperous in this life, said, "He is a mere mortal like you. He eats and drinks as you do. 33 If you follow a mortal like yourselves you will certainly be lost. 34 Promiseth he unto you that ye, when ye have died and have become dust and bones, ye are to be brought forth? 35 ۞ After, after with that which you are promised! 36 There is no other life than the life of the world. We shall live here and here shall we die; and we are not going to be raised again. 37 This man has forged a mere lie in the name of Allah and we shall never believe what he says." 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 He replied: 'Before long, by the morning, they shall be remorseful' 40 So they were rightly seized by a mighty blast; and We turned them into mouldy rubbish: A good riddance of the wicked people! 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 to Pharaoh and his courtiers, but they behaved insolently, for they were an arrogant people. 46 They said, "Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are for us in servitude?" 47 So they rejected them both, and became those who were destroyed. 48 for, indeed, We had vouchsafed revelation unto Moses in order that they might find the right way. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water. 50
