The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
