Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 laboring, wornout, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets laid out, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
