Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
