Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 and the day in splendour 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
