The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 We do not send down angels without reason, and if the angels descend they would not get any respite! 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
