Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 Which the trusted spirit descended with 193 to your heart that you might become one of those who warn (others on behalf of Allah), 194 In the perspicuous Arabic tongue. 195 And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples. 196 Is it not a Sign to them - (to wit, the Makkans) - that the learned men of the Children of Israel know that? 197 Had We revealed it to a non-Arab 198 And he had recited it to them [perfectly], they would [still] not have been believers in it. 199 Thus do We cause (unbelief) to enter the hearts of sinners. 200 who will not believe in it, until they see the painful chastisement 201 that will come upon them [on resurrection,] all of a sudden, without their being aware [of its approach]; 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 Seek haste then they with our torment? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 Of what avail shall their enjoyment be to them? 207 We never destroyed any town without first sending to them warning and guidance. 208 and reminded: for, never do We wrong [anyone]. 209 And the devils have not brought the revelation down. 210 nor does it behove them, nor does it lie in their power. 211 Most surely they are far removed from the hearing of it. 212 Hence, [O man,] do not invoke any other deity side by side with God, lest thou find thyself among those who are made to suffer [on Judgment Day]. 213 Warn your close relatives 214 and extend kindness and affection to those of the believers who follow you. 215 And if they disobey thee, say thou: verily I am quit of that which ye work. 216 Have trust in the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up 218 And your movements among those who bow in homage to God. 219 He is all-hearing and all-knowing. 220 Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend? 221 They descend on every lying, wicked person, 222 They listen, but most of them are liars. 223 And as to the poets, those who go astray follow them. 224 Do you not see how they wander aimlessly in every valley, 225 And they say what they do not do, 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
