The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
