The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and banana trees, 29 and shade extended, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
