The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and extended shade, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
