Thamud denied the messengers 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
