And, verily, Yunus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 And were he not one of those who praise. – 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish until the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 We made a plant of gourd grow up for him. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 or is it that We have created the angels female, and they [who believe them to be divine] have witnessed [that act of creation]? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 cannot mislead anyone 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 [The angels say], "Every single one of us has his place assigned: 164 we are the rangers, 165 we are they that give glory. 166 They used to say: 167 Had we a reminder from those of yore, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 Most surely they shall be the assisted ones 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 So turn thou aside from them for a season. 174 And watch them, for they will soon see. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
