The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 save those that pray 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
