The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss. 3 Do they not think they will be raised to life again 4 on a great day 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 it is a written record. 9 Woe, that Day, to those that deny- 10 and those who have rejected the Day of Judgment. 11 None belies it except every guilty sinner. 12 When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 A Register inscribed. 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 upon their faces thou wilt see the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given pure wine to drink, which is kept preserved, sealed. 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 And whilst returning to their homes, they used to return rejoicing. 31 And when they saw them, they said: Most surely these are in error; 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
