Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
