The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
