And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 Do not betray me 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
