The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
