a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
