The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And the family in which he was. 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Are free of blame, 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
