The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
