The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 Where they will recline on couches feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,- 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 If you were to see it, you would find it to be a great kingdom with great bounty. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
