Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 and raised couches, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
