The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
