So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers. 64 Depart with your family in a part of the night and walk behind them and let none of you turn round. Go to a place where you are commanded' 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 And guard against (the punishment of) Allah and do not put me to shame. 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said: 'Here are my daughters; take them (in marriage), if you would be doing' 71 By your life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement. 72 An explosion struck them at sunrise. 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Indeed in that are signs for those who discern. 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 Most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
