He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
