Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said: 'Do you believe in Him before I permit? This is a plot that you have contrived in the city in order to expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said, “We shall return to our Lord.” 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
