The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
