(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
