When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 And We revealed to him this decree, that the roots of these shall be cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. (* To the house of Prophet Lut.) 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They replied: "Did we not forbid you again and again to extend hospitality to all and sundry?" 70 He said: These are my daughters, if you will do (aught). 71 By your life O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside-down and showered on them lumps of baked clay. 74 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the prudent ones. 75 And verily they are on a pathway lasting. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 The people of the Wood were also surely wrongdoers. 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
