The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 Then he called upon His Lord: “Verily I am vanquished; so come You to my aid.” 10 Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
