۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
