Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 therein a running fountain, 12 and couches raised high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and outspread carpets. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
