The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the great event, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 It will be a place of return 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
