A company of the former peoples 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
