The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil), 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 And how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 16 We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
