A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
