The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 tearing away his skin! 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 except those who are steadfast 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
