The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
