The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
