Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
